GT20-1 hung on reboot

Gt20-1 recognized a problem and tried to reboot… On reboot the LSI MegaRAID card recognized a dirty cache with no Battery Back UP present (on the card itself) and stopped during POST.  Looking further into the problem, we found that somehow the cache policy for the card was Write-Back which it should not have been without a BBU module installed, and according to LSI documentation it shouldn’t have allowed it to be Write-Back. Yet after getting the server back up, I verified the config on the card was indeed set that way.

How we’re addressing this:
Short Term- Turned the config setting back to Write-Thru not Write-Back
Long Term – Ordered a BBU module and having VirtBiz install it.

Please note: The server will need to be off for 30 minutes or so while they remove the card, attach the BBU and then replace the card into the server. We’ll update this post when we know more about when this will be happening …
