An upstream dns lookup issue caused some slow performance for some functions on the servers in Dallas… The issue was timeout occuring doing a reverse-lookup… That is when you connect to one of the servers for some functions (sending email for example), it tries to compare who your computer claims it is against the reverse dns entry (ip address to hostname).  Also affected was the /members/ support site which also does a dns lookup, as well as looks up the servers to verify it’s ClientExec license.  We changed the way the Dallas servers do the lookup to use other servers that don’t appear to be having the issue and performance has signifigantly improved.

We are re-ip’ing the X335 server in Dallas at the node level…

This will not affect customers’ websites but will affect the ability to browse our website, or the support site. 

Like the hypervm, this should not take more than a few minutes…

The hypervm.lagniappeinternet.com server’s IP address is being changed as we speak…

While in the process of changing it, the server will be unavailable from time to time. This should be completed in the next few minutes.

The linux1 shared hosting server will have it’s version of DirectAdmin upgraded this weekend during Saturday night starting around 9pm Central time.  The version will be going from 1.32.1 to 1.33.3 — so we’re not expecting any major issues during the upgrade. This is in preparation for migrating the linux1 sites from the current box to GT20-1 in the next two weeks. The GT20-1 server is a MAJOR upgrade (Dual Xeon processors, 8GB of RAM, and 4x 750GB Raid Edition drives in RAID10) and will benefit all of our shared reseller clients.

8:55pm:  The upgrade will begin shortly. I’m running a backup now. As soon as it ends, I’ll begin the upgrade.

9:20pm: Update completed – rebooting server

9:40pm: Everything checks out… we’re done!
