Virpus has issued a statement of what happened that affected thier network, where VPS1 (no customers on VPS1) is currently.

This email is to inform you on the events that took place on Tuesday, October 21 2008 and address questions that came up as far as network redundancy.
At 11:29 AM Central Time, one of the carriers our provider utilizes went down due to a hardware failure on our carriers end. The reason of such long delay to get the failed equipment replaced was due to a mis-match in the equipment that was delivered to our primary carriers facility, which required another part. The network was restored at 6:12 PM Central Time.

Our provider is currently in the process of building another facility, and the other provider that we have was in the process of moving the circuit to the new facility, which our primary provider just happened to go down at the worst time.

It should also be noted that new carriers are soon to be added including Cogent and another national carrier. In addition to this, agreements have been established to exchange emergency bandwidth with other providers if in such a rare case that all providers were to fail.

Our team understands that maximum uptime is essential and critical to any operation, and even prior to this incident, we have been working with vendors to further secure our mission with the buildout of our new core/facility along side with a solid network.

I would like to apologize to our customers for such prolonged and unforeseen downtime that has occured. I know that it was very annoying, which I ensured that we did our best to keep you informed of the situation as best we could.

Thank you for being a valued customer, Robert, and we appreciate your patience during this incident, as well as your business with us.

Most Sincere and Warm Regards,
Kenneth Odem, CEO
Virpus Networks, Inc.

Edit 11/21/08 – VPS1 is no longer at Virpus. It was never a customer machine but used for monitoring our servers.
